Ulysses S. Grant, on left, the general who won the Civil War, and was twice elected president (1868 and 1872) meets *in the Tanner House library* with President Abraham Lincoln and Secretary of War Edwin Stanton. Imagery of Lincoln and the war was very popular in the north in the late Victorian era. Interestingly, this meeting never took place. The sculpture was simply intended to honor these national heroes. Sorry, the Tanner House is still closed due to the pandemic. But you can watch the 17-minute video tour of the house below.
