Tanner House Tours by Candlelight
Explore the 1857 Tanner House Museum in an entirely unique way — after dark. The Tanner House Tours by Candlelight will allow visitors to explore the house and grounds throughout October.
This one-hour tour, for ages 16 and up, will begin with a brief introduction that includes the history of the house and the family that inhabited it. Guests will then be able to explore portions of the home and grounds, aided and informed by docents stationed throughout the property. The house will be dimly lit to enhance the ambiance of the season. Guests are free to bring their own flashlights and other gear.
Featured in Haunted Aurora, the Tanner House Museum and “Payroll Rock” boast an enduring “haunted history,” however, the Historical Society has no official evidence of and makes no claims of things going bump in the night.
To add an element not usually seen during regular tours, guests will be provided the option to tour with an electromagnetic field (EMF) reader included in the ticket price.
Weather permitting, guests may warm themselves by a campfire and enjoy warm cider courtesy of our sponsors.
This seasonal event is designed as a fun, educational, atmospheric nighttime exploration of the house and grounds. This event takes the place of the “Death Comes to the Tanner House” performances/tour.
