This portrait of Marion Tanner Simpson (1851-1902) just arrived from Tanner descendants in Virginia, accompanied by a little poem by a grandchild she never knew. She was the 7th of the 10 Tanner children.

This portrait was painted by her brother-in-law, Cort Simpson. She died of pneumonia in the house on North Lake Street (now demolished) where she lived with her husband, Frank, a harness maker from Chicago, and their 4 living children. She was 51.
