A woman in Civil War-era mourning clothes brings flowers to decorate graves during a Memorial Day ceremony at the West Aurora Cemetery, May 30, 2021. The flowers include laurel (for honor), evergreens (for remembrance) and a single red rose for love. JoEllen Kowalski is affiliated with the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, P.H. Sheridan Camp #2 which annually conducts a ceremony and cannon firing at the cemetery.
