The pocket-sized diary of Corporal Frederick L. Thayer, who served in the Union Army in the Civil War and later moved from Massachusetts to Aurora with his wife and children, was presented to Eric Pry, Director of the GAR Memorial Hall and Museum, on June 11, 2021. It was donated by Thayer’s great-grandson, Frederick Hall, through the efforts of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, an organization which was first chartered at Aurora’s GAR Hall. The Hall was formed 146 years ago on June 10, 1875. In the photo Harry Reineke IV from the SUVCW presents Eric Pry with the diary and other papers in front of a portrait of Frederick Thayer.
