This chair is smoking… or, rather, FOR smoking

A prized item in our collection, it is back in the Library at the Tanner House after being off display for several years. Thanks to David and Catalina Vega for their restoration work. The complexity of the carving, probably done in the 1880s, with the delicate pipes and the smoking caps on the dogs is really nice. The compartments in the arms were meant to hold smoking items. Tanner House opens for the season on June 7 (we hope).
